Week 51

Welcome back and happy Wednesday! I'm still a bit behind but family time comes first. I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. We had a great week leading up to Christmas enjoying our college kids being home and prepping for the big day. It did come up more quickly than I would have liked but that tends to happen. We also seemed to have more shipping issues this year which was stressful and forced a bit of last minute juggling. The upside to that it will be a Christmas that keeps giving as the delayed presents trickle in.

Until then, here's a peek at last week's pictures:

Day 352- Monday, 12/18/23

The rain continues so that means a rainy start to the week. The campus was super wet and unfortunately I needed to run between buildings in this mess plus our coffee place was shut down because the students are on winter break.  I guess the employees don't matter.  Bah Humbug!   At least back at home we had a comforting warm family meal to end the day right.  This was our first one at home together since the boys returned.

Day 352- Tuesday, 12/19/23

The rainy weather continues with thunder and lightening this time.  I'm happy to be working from home today.  Rusty even helped me check email by tree-light.  Later that afternoon when the rain stopped I ventured out to do some more shopping--mostly stocking stuffers and ingredients for baking.  I'm pretty sure it won't be my last trip to the store either as we readjust to having hungry boys at home again.

Day 354- Wednesday, 12/20/23

This should be the final day for rain until next week anyway.  I had a full and busy day at work but then got to spend time with Justin as we started making our holiday treats.  Today it was Christmas Crack and tomorrow we'll start baking cookies.  I also found a cute new green and gold woven tree decoration and a new snow globe at Target while waiting on a prescription to be filled for John.  My polar bear globe turned a funny color a couple years ago and I've been looking for a new one since that had just the right scene inside.  This one is perfect--looks like John and I skiing.  He wants to give skiing a try agin this winter and has been conditioning at PT.  Hopefully this snow-globe find will help us manifest that.

Day 355- Thursday, 12/21/23

No rain today so I was able to get out for a short walk after work and had fun collecting some leaves before settling in to wrap presents and begin baking with the boys.  John was also wrapping gifts out in the garage and put up a sign to help keep us out.  We didn't realize how often we needed to go out there for various reasons until we couldn't.  LOL!

Day 356- Friday, 12/22/23

TGIF!  Last full day of work for before the New Year.  I'm mostly off all next week and am so looking forward to a much needed break. After work we continued with the baking and marveled at how much better the tree looks with present under it.  We have also been receiving a lot of holiday cards from family and friends which is a great way to catch up especially with those that live far away.  Later John used those yummy lemons we recently picked to make lemon-drop drinks for us to kick off the holidays right.  Cheers to the weekend!

Day 357- Saturday, 12/23/23

Today I finished up our Christmas cake and Justin & Brandon helped finish up the last bit of baking and decorating treats for our cookie plates while Rusty snooped under the tree. He was very curious about all the new items and fun ribbons piled down there.

Day 358- Sunday, 12/24/23

Cookie plates were pulled together and delivered by Justin today while one last trip to the store was made to acquire the finishing touches for the big day.  We also all pitched in to make our traditional homemade pizzas for dinner, drove around the neighborhood to look at Christmas lights, and then opened one gift before heading to bed.  Sweet dreams boys and Happy Christmas Eve!

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by and next week I'll catch you in the New Year.  Have a safe and happy entry into 2024.

Week 50

Welcome back and happy Thursday!  What a week last week was which is why I'm running late this week but it's all good.  This is the mad dash and final week before Christmas, but before we could really focus on that we had an important trip to take up north celebrating our new college graduate as you will see below.

Here's a look at how last week played out:

Day 345- Monday, 12/11/23

'Tis the season for fresh lemons and we are so lucky our fence-line neighbors have a good tree that grows over onto our side.  The lemons are absolutely beautiful this year and so fragrant which is great because last year they had a bummer crop.

Day 346- Tuesday, 12/12/23

The boys will be home for winter break this week so I'm prepping for their return.  Time to catch up on those advent calendars.

Day 347- Wednesday, 12/13/23

The weather has been so nice and sunny lately.  Today at work it was beautiful out and perfect for a walk to pick up some mis-delivered samples.  This happens a lot during the holiday season when FedEx and UPS are overwhelmed with more than usual packages.  After work and after John's PT we headed to the airport to pick up Brandon who is home for the holidays and then went out to dinner.  It's great to have him back.

Day 348- Thursday, 12/14/23

He only got 1 sleep in his own bed before we hit the road and made our way north to the lost coast for a few days. We were delighted to see this view of Trinidad Bay at our rental when we arrived and the boys were even more delighted that the place came with a ping-pong table.  They are so competitive but in a fun way and I am happy that Tyler and Lupe could make the trip as well.  We have everyone here to cheer Justin on tomorrow.

Day 349- Friday, 12/15/23

Congratulations Justin!  Today was Fall Commencement at Cal Poly Humboldt and it was a perfect day with a nice low-key ceremony for the graduates.  There were 3 groups graduating today and his didn't start until 3:30 pm so we had a nice mellow morning making brunch at the rental. After the big event we went out to a Triple D restaurant called Brick & Fire in near by Eureka for dinner to celebrate.

Day 350- Saturday, 12/16/23

We have one last day up here to enjoy.  Justin came over so we could all go out to breakfast at a great place near the rental where we saw these amazing sun rays burst up above one of the ocean rocks.  Then Tyler and Lupe had to head back home and Justin had to help prep for a holiday party with friends.  After chilling for a bit the rest of us decided to hit a Humboldt favorite for a yummy late lunch.  To end the day and to work off all the great food we've been eating I went out on a walk around where we were staying to take in more ocean views.  This is the calm before the storm.  The weather here has been amazing perfect for December but tomorrow a huge system moves in bringing one of those atmospheric rivers.

Day 351- Sunday, 12/17/23

Today we loaded Justin up and hit the road spending all day driving home in the rain--so much rain--but it was and always is a beautiful drive that I don't usually experience in the rain.  Even though it was a great trip we are also happy to be home with all our boys.

That's it for now!  Back to Christmas prep with less than a week to go.  Yikes!!

I hope everyone has a great holiday and is also surrounded by family and friends to help celebrate.
