Week 42

Welcome back!  I'm running a bit late this week. Last week was super busy and very full of appointments but we got to end on a good note and had some fun so it was all worth it.

Here's how last week went down:

Day 290- Monday, 10/17/22

We stared the week with a nice colorful sunrise.  You can't beat that.  Later, after work, we had to to get a COVID test for John so he can get a fit/stress test at the end of the week.  The COVID testing center was close to where his Cardio PT was happening so we arrived a little early for that but it was fine because it gave us a little down time in the healing garden.

Day 291-- Tuesday, 10/18/22

Today in between remote work we had PT at Sci/Fit where he got to try to use a cane for the first time.  It was harder than he expected but still good to try.  His left leg needed more strength for that and now we know.  Afterward we had to get a blood draw done so his blood work is ready for his UCSF dr visit on Friday.

Day 292- Wednesday, 10/19/22

There was only 1 appointment today so it was nice to have a bit of a break.  I was able to take the dog for a pretty fall walk and then we had a yummy fall dinner including bacon wrapped pork tenderloin cuts and garlic herb pasta paired with a hard cider.

Day 293- Thursday, 10/20/22

Today more appointments including leg PT and another COVID test this time for a procedure happening next week.  I sure do a lot of waiting in waiting rooms these days. At least we were done early so and it was another beautiful fall day out so time for another long dog walk.  These walks help me clear my head and regroup.

Day 294- Friday, 10/21/22

We're off to San Francisco to see the transplant team.  We have 3 appointments booked for today and the 1st is just after 8am so we left the house a super early and caught a ferry into the city all before the sun came up.  It was eerie but also peaceful arriving before the city was really awake.   We're staying the night at the Hyatt right near the ferry terminal so we dropped our bags there before ubering around to appointments.  It was a really long and exhausting day but since we got to have dinner with friends in the city at John's Grill which was a great way to end the day.  Side note- the transplant team will be adding John to the transplant list after another visit in a few weeks to do one more test that will help determine what position on the list he'll be added to.  It a process but we're headed in the right direction now since recovery without does not look like an option.

Day 295- Saturday, 10/22/22

Today was all about more fun and more friends while still in the city where John grew up. We got to sleep in at our hotel near the port, then had a nice lunch on the pier and hung out with friends clowning around laughing the day away.  It was the happiest I've seen John in a long time.  I tell you what though--San Francisco is not an easy place to navigate in a wheelchair with it's many steep hills, crazy traffic and next to no handicapped parking.

Day 296- Sunday, 10/23/22

Today we caught up on weekend chores and decompressed from our trip.  We also watched the season finale of House of the Dragon. What a week!

Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you next week.

Week 41

Welcome back!  We're having another wonderful fall Tuesday here.  It's actually more of an Indian Summer like feel but either way very nice out.  Last week was pretty chill and this week we are running around crazy preparing for a trip to San Francisco on Friday.  There will be 3 dr appointments there that require some pre-screening.  Plus were also trying to plan some fun and visits with friends while there.

Until then take a look at last week's pictures:

Day 283- Monday, 10/10/22

Rusty really enjoys the fresh cool air and likes to watch the fall leaves blow by in the afternoon breeze.  That was happening out back and later out front there was a nice harvest moon lighting up our street.

Day 284- Tuesday, 10/11/22

The worst part about having an empty nest is inheriting the extra chores.  It's trash day and this is normally Brandon's job but at least I'm getting a workout while I do it.  Afterward I was able to relax inside and enjoy watching TV by pumpkin light.  We even watched a scary movie so it helped add to the atmosphere.

Day 285- Wednesday, 10/12/22

Wednesday at work while stepping out to grab coffee I spied this weathered paper napkin piece that somehow ended up being shaped like a heart.  It's nice to get good signs from the universe here and there in the most unexpected places.  For a late lunch back at home I had a very fall like spread that was also nice and cool on this warmer day. The mornings here are cold and crisp but the afternoons can really heat up.

Day 286- Thursday, 10/13/22

I'm slowly finding time between work and appointments to get all my pumpkin and fall decorations out.  Here is another kid chore I inherited.  I usually always feed the cat unless Justin wants to but Brandon usually always feeds the dog and now I'm in charge of both. At least they really appreciate me for it.  This is Bella's favorite time of day.

Day 287- Friday, 10/14/22

You can hardly see them but there are 2 band aides there. I got my flu and updated bivalent COVID shot today at the CVS in Target.  John was also vaccinated but at Rite-Aid instead since he was needing the Pfizer and I was needing the Moderna.  Happy to have them done. TGIF!

Day 288- Saturday, 10/15/22

Today was very chill.  We both did well with our booster shots having only sore arms, slight headaches and feeling a little more tired than usual on this next day.  Nothing like the fever and flu-like symptoms experienced before.  Aside from a little yard work I also worked to finish putting out the last of my fall decorations.

Day 289- Sunday, 10/16/22

This evening for Sunday dinner I made a whole chicken in the air fryer and then some apple turnovers for dessert in there as well.  It was a nice fall meal and everything turned out great.

That's it for now!  I'll see you next week as we start to wrap up the month.  Can't wait for November when we get to have the kids back home for a bit to do some chores--LOL!  Just kidding.  That would be to love on them of course/

Week 40

Welcome back and happy Tuesday!  We're just plugging along around here and hoping that a few appointments toward the end of the month will give us more clarity in what the next few month will bring.

Until then enjoy last week's pictures which include many signs of fall:

Day 276- Monday, 10/3/22

There's nothing better than starting the week off with a nice fall walk and of course in Calif we're still wearing flipflops through most of fall since it's too warm for cute fall boots just yet.

Day 277- Tuesday, 10/4/22

I made spaghetti and meatballs for tonight dinner paired with a nice local red wine.  After dinner I spied some turned leaves on many of the trees in the neighborhood.  Before you know it all the leaves will be turned and then on the ground and we'll be left with bare winter trees.

Day 278- Wednesday, 10/5/22

Wednesday at work I got all my in lab stuff done quickly so I could spend most the day on the computer plowing through some grant prep stuff before a planning meeting.  One week until the grant's due date.  I haven't been part of grant writing in quite a long time but it's all coming back to me including the last minute stress and push to get it done--always so many requirements and needed documents.

Day 279- Thursday, 10/6/22

I'm happy to see my rose bushes coming into one last bloom now that the temps have cooled a bit.  This rose bud is the perfect shade of color for fall.  Later at PT John worked  on his walking by making his way out to the car at the end of the session and it was no easy feat for him but he did it and the more he does it the easier it will get.

Day 280- Friday, 10/7/2

I love the pop of red color through the sea of green.  This was the only vine thread that had turned on the whole stretch of fence and it totally caught my eye.  After our walk it was treat time for Bella.  It is Friday after all.

Day 281- Saturday, 10/8/22

There's nothing like a warm cup of anything first thing in the morning that I can enjoy at home without rushing to get out.  Later I worked in the yard prepping it for fall and winter by making sure all the weeds are gone and the bushes are trimmed way back.  While out there I found this cute little feather stuck in the pool fence.

Day 282- Sunday, 10/9/22

It's time to decorate for fall so I picked up a variety of pumpkins and had Tyler help me get the Halloween boxes down from the attic.  What a fun time of year. 🍁

That's it! See you next week.

Week 39

Welcome back!  We're enjoying the fall goodness here. Everything and everyone just looks and feels so much better when it's pleasant out.  Now let's hope it lasts until winter decides to set in.  Isn't it crazy we're into October already?!  Can't say that I'm not sad about putting this year to an end.  For us personally it was way worse than 2020 so we're more than ready for a new and better year.

Here's a look at last week's pictures:

Day 269- Monday, 9/26/22

I love having friends that share their chicken's fresh laid eggs.  Not only do they taste better but the also come in fun colors.  What a nice treat to start off my week with.

Day 270- Tuesday, 9/27/22

Working remote in-between appointments and errands today.  At least it helps give me dedicated time away from lab work to catch up on paperwork.  Time to input all the goat sample data.  Afterward the cat needed a little cuddle. Love that you can see my toes and his toes in this picture--too cute!

Day 271- Wednesday, 9/28/22

It's so nice that we can attend lectures in person again and that lunch was provided!  Then from one screen to the next--not only is Survivor back on Wednesday nights but so is The Amazing Race--yay!

Day 272- Thursday, 9/29/22

Nope!  I'm not sitting in a Dr or PT appointment waiting on John.  This time I'm waiting for an oil change.  I got the 1st appointment of the day so I could have it done quickly on an early morning work break and I was back at work before anyone else even showed up!  Later after work we had an wonderful blue and cool sky with wispy clouds to walk under.  It was a beautiful day to be out.

Day 273- Friday,  9/30/22

I found these pretty turning leaves in the healing garden while waiting on John's cardio-rehab class  to end, and back at home we enjoyed some hard cider as a nice fall treat to kick off the weekend.  TGIF!

Day 274- Saturday, 10/1/22

Happy October!  Bring on all the fall goodness.  I worked to pack up some fall care-packages to send to the college boys.  Now I just need one more item to add . . .

Day 275- Sunday, 10/2/22

. . . and that would pumpkin bread.  It even smells like fall in here.  My boys will be so happy to have these treats, but I wish they were here to help and enjoy some with me--soon enough.

That's it!  Hope you all are having a good start to your fall season too.
