Week 31

Hello and welcome back.  Last week was another fully-packed eventful week. Turns out most weeks will be in August.  Best part of last week is that we have Justin back.  He'll be home for the rest of this week to visit and get some appointments in before heading back to Humboldt for his last semester. We're enjoying his company as much as we can and trying to squeeze in some fun.

Here are last week's pictures:

Day 212- Monday, 7/31/23

Happy 19th Birthday to Brandon!  He chose a yummy Cold Stone ice-cream cake to celebrate with and he got a lot of presents he can use for his new apartment life coming up plus a few fun things to work on before he leaves us.

Day 213- Tuesday, 8/1/23

Hello August!  It is for sure the season to enjoy popsicles. Another great way to beat the heat is to take in a movie.  One of the things Brandon wanted to do for his birthday was see the Oppenheimer movie on IMAX especially since it was specifically shot to be seen that way.  He has never been to an IMAX theater before and had done his research on it so it was a nice treat for him to experience that.  The movie was really well done too.

Day 214- Wednesday, 8/2/23

Outside right now we have a lot of  wild sunflowers growing all over the place which are always fun to see in the summer.  Inside right now we have our office back.  Since we got the new bed and John is navigating the stairs so much better he no longer needs the bed downstairs in the office.  Yay!  Progress every day.  Rusty is also super happy because now he can have his favorite napping place back and didn't waste anytime trying it out.

Day 215- Thursday, 8/3/23

A group of people from John's physical therapy Sci-Fit place went to a Giants game together in San Francisco.  One of his trainers, Lauren, made it all happen and Tyler was able to go too. It was a fun day for them and even better--the Giants won!

Day 216- Friday, 8/4/23

Ugh!  All of a sudden the gas prices go through the roof again.  They mentioned it on the national news after I was shocked filling up my car today and said the average raised up to $3.56.  I only wish we had those prices even as our normal.  We're stuck here now in the $5 range once again.  At least when I got home I found a nice treat to make life seem a bit better.  I haven't had a pop-tart in ages.  Now that John has his taste back and love for food again plus can shop on his own he's making up for lost time bringing home a lot of his old favorites which is how we ended up with pop-tarts.  Later for our Friday night movie we streamed Love Again which was a nice feel good movie and sadly one of the last things Celine has been able to do with her health problems progressing.

Day 217- Saturday, 8/5/23

Most of today I spent outside in the yard putzing around until it was time to pick Justin up from the train station in Davis.  He's home for a week and it's great to have him back. For dinner we made chicken wings coated in different sauces from a pack he had given John for Father's Day. It was fun picking a few out and rating them.  They were all very tasty but for the boys the level of heat really matters so that was how they decided on a winner.

Day 218- Sunday, 8/6/23

I've been wanting to do this for a couple years now since it's really close to where we live and I know a lot of people who have been and highly recommend it. Keeping in mind when Justin would be home, I book the best date for us to go as a family on this Bat Talk & Walk.  Even Tyler and Lupe joined us so we had the whole crew.  It started at the facility with a talk and us being able to see a few live bats up close that cannot be returned to the wild.  Then just before sunset we headed to the base of the causeway to get into position for the best viewing of the bat fly-out.  I travel across this causeway every day to go to work and underneath is where the bat colonies roost during the day.  A few minutes after sunset (a little later than normal making us all nervous) they started their fly-out which happens in several stages with different large groups heading out at different times to hunt and feed on insects.  It's quite an amazing sight to see and almost impossible to catch in way that does it justice on camera.  Everyone enjoyed it, learned a lot, and would totally do it again.

That's wraps up another week.  See you on the flip side.
