Week 21

Happy Wednesday! I'm running a bit behind as the Monday holiday threw things off but here we are.  Last week was a recovery week meaning getting back to normal from the crazy week before and lots of downtime for the pup recovering from her spay surgery.  We also did a lot of yummy food prep and eating for the holiday weekend.

Here are last week's pictures-

Day 141- Monday, 5/20/24

Justin is settling in at home while he searches for a job, and it's been nice having him around as an extra pair of hands to help here and there plus he's pretty comical so keeps us entertained.  Bailey is happy to have an extra playmate and walk buddy too.

Day 142- Tuesday, 5/21/24

We have more new things coming in bloom out back helping to add more fun color.

Day 143- Wednesday, 5/22/24

Wednesday at work I'm feeding my culture among other things and back at home Bailey is napping on John (one of her favorite places to nap).  Look--his drink is the same color as the media I use in the lab. That's random, and not something I would have noticed if I had not taken these 2 picture on the same day.

Day 144- Thursday, 5/23/24

We added a pet barrier in my car now that Bailey is too big for a crate back there and just in time for us to take her to the vet for her spay.  I also ordered this soft donut like pillow for her as an alternative to the plastic vet cone collar she needs to wear keeping her from messing with the incision site. It works great and is way more comfortable for her. Poor thing looked so sad when we picked her up this evening and now we have to try to keep her calm for 2 weeks.  Wish us luck!

Day 145- Friday, 5/24/24

Our little, or should I say big now, patient is doing well and relaxing like she is supposed to.  She has gotten so long and lanky and not really looking like a puppy anymore at almost 5 months old. When we are with her to supervise she doesn't need the protective collar, but when we need to leave her alone or overnight while she sleeps we make sure she has it on.  Thankfully she's not too interested in messing with her incision stitches yet. That may change in a few more days when it stops hurting and starts to itch more.  Otherwise Happy Friday!  Tonight we watched this Ferrari movie with a great cast that recently dropped for streaming.

Day 146- Saturday, 5/25/24

Cheers to a long weekend and also to John being told his heart function is now high enough not to need a transplant!  He'll still be on the list at the lowest level but only so they can quickly move him up if need be in the future.  So proud of him working hard to get his heart healthy again when we didn't think it would be possible just a couple years ago.  Today called for another mellow evening so after dinner we settled down with our pup to watch this newly released movie on Netflix.  Go JLO!

Day 147- Sunday, 5/26/24
John is BBQing ribs for dinner tonight, I made cornbread plus mac&cheese, and Justin made us chocolate-pudding pie for dessert.  It was all so good and a great group effort.  Bailey supervised which apparently was exhausting.  Bless her heart!  She's been so good and such a trooper through her recovery but is sad and not understanding why she cannot play frisbee outside.  At last she is great at being mellow on walks so we can at least take her out for a short one each evening.

That wraps up another week and I hope everyone had a nice long weekend.

Week 20

Hello and welcome back!  Last week was a very eventful and fun week.  We had a full house for a few days after my quick road trip up north and back. I wasn't sure how the puppy would handle all the change and excitement but she did better than expected. We just need to work on her barking at strangers.  This current week looks to be much quieter and cooler.  Time to get the house back in order.

Here are last week's pictures:

Day 134- Monday, 5/13/24

I'm off early for my 6 hr drive to Humboldt so I can move Justin home after completing his research project.  Thankfully one of my favorite pitstops along the way has a Dunkin Donuts shop where I grabbed breakfast to help fuel me for the rest of the drive.  Once I arrived I checked into the hotel and the parking lot was near this beautiful field swaying in the wind.  The whole Humboldt area is all about being surrounded by peaceful nature and I love that.  Next up was hours of packing in Justin's rental house.  His stuff is all boxed and ready to be loaded up tomorrow for our return home. As a treat for finishing such a big task we enjoyed a great dinner out at the local brewery and dessert at the cute and delicious ice-cream shop around the corner.

Day 135- Tuesday, 5/14/24

The car is loaded to the brim and busting at the seams but we got it all in except a couple pieces that Justin's partner will bring at the end of the month when she visits.  Before hitting the road for our long journey home we had brunch at this local favorite bagel shop I've been wanting to try.  It was worth all the hype and also one of Justin's go-to places so I'm glad we got to have a meal there together before leaving since I have no idea if I'll ever be back.  There are a lot of wildlife jobs here though and his significant other is here so it's possible Justin may end up returning to settle in this area.  We'll see.

Day 136- Wednesday, 5/15/24

Someone missed me and is happy I'm home.  Look who else is home.  Brandon flew in from LA this afternoon for a short visit since he's now on summer break but will return for a job starting soon back at school. Both boys were super excited to see Bailey again and amazed at how much she has grow in the past month when they last saw her.

Day 137- Thursday, 5/16/24

And now my parents have arrived for a visit and will be here through the weekend.  We are the third stop on their road trip from Texas stopping along the way to see various family members is different states.  They also made sure to bring a new toy for Bailey to get on her good side which worked great after she was done barking at them.  All the new people trickling in over the past few days have been a lot for her to process but she's warmed up to them all and has enjoyed the extra attention and excitement.

Day 138- Friday, 5/17/24

The current state of our loft with Justin moved back in (hard to believe we actually got all that in my car); the current way Baily likes to lay all stretched out in a Superman pose; and the current movie we watched tonight after a yummy pizza dinner with my parents.

Day 139- Saturday, 5/18/24

Today Tyler and Lupe came over to see everyone and we all had a nice big BBQ dinner with s'mores for dessert.  The weather was perfect and it was great for us to be all together again swapping stories and catching up.

Day 140- Sunday, 5/19/24

My parents left early this morning for their 5-day road trip back to Texas and Brandon took off later on a flight to Orange County where he'll spend the summer at his apartment so he can work on campus.  We'll hopefully see him again for a few days before school starts back up in August.  After I dropped him off I swung by the carwash on the way home so I could get all the bugs and grime removed off the car from my Humboldt trip.  Much better now!

That's all.  See you next Tuesday as we get back to a regular routine.

Week 19

Hello and welcome back!  There was not a whole lot going on this past week aside from prep for the upcoming week, a weather event that was pretty cool, and the celebration of all you moms out there.  I just returned from traveling the past couple days so this post is a little late.

Here's how it all went down as seen in pictures from last week:

Day 127- Monday, 5/6/24

It's the dawn of a new week and the sun keeps coming up sooner and sooner plus it's set to really heat up around here into the 90's by end of the week.  That is actually perfect for warming our pool ahead of the Memorial Day weekend at the end of the month.

Day 128- Tuesday, 5/7/24

Remote work means I get more morning time with the pup who is learning to settle in the kitchen when were grabbing things here and there.  Later in the afternoon Rusty was enjoying the view on the stairs as he watched the pup run around to burn off energy.

Day 129- Wednesday, 5/8/24

Today was super windy which was not great for our picnic style staff appreciation lunch.  Sadly it was pretty miserable for all but we do appreciate the effort.

Day 130- Thursday, 5/9/24

The nasty wind has died down and now the heat is starting to hit so ice-cream sounded like a great idea.  This is his and hers flavors--Moose Tracks for him and Java Chunk for me.  While we enjoyed our cool treat and Bailey napped, Rusty was happy to play laser mouse with me.

Day 131- Friday, 5/10/24

All this heat and less rain means time to turn the sprinklers on for the summer.  Also there was a rare solar storm on the sun causing northern lights to be seen as far south as the bay area here in California and across the country.  We couldn't really see them in Sacramento but out away from city lights in the foothills and what not they could be seen locally.  This picture here was taking up where Justin is in the Humboldt area near Trinidad beach.  So cool!  photo credit--Christoffer Hansen

 Day 132- Saturday, 5/11/24

John put a doggy door in for Baily so she can access her outside dog run from the garage area where her crate is.  Also, inside, this is how she is dealing with the heat--just sleeps through it on the cool floors!  Our movie this evening was something John found on Max with an interesting title I had never heard of but it was actually a really good find.

Day 133- Sunday, 5/12/24

Happy Mother's Day!  Sadly I only have 1 boy home today to celebrate with me but will see Justin tomorrow and Brandon Wednesday.  Tyler stepped up though and made me a nice brunch plus brought good gifts.

That's it.  Hope everyone else had a good week.  See you next time.
