Week 25

Hello and welcome back!  Here we are in the last week of June.  I swear now days I blink and lose 3 weeks just like that.  Last week was super busy at work and home but what else is new?  For the weekend we threw a summer BBQ party which was fun but also interesting with the puppy and unfortunately was held on the only triple digit day of the week so super hot.  Thank goodness for AC and great shade trees out back.

Here are last week's pictures:

Day 169- Monday 6/17/24

Here's to the dawn of a new week!  I had a lot of bench work to get done in the lab today and tomorrow will not be my usual remote work day since I have hamsters to tend on campus but Wednesday is a holiday so looking forward to that.

Day 170- Tuesday, 6/18/24

After work today I spent some time out back surveying what needs to be done in the yard to get ready for a BBQ party we are hosting Saturday.  Sadly most of our flower blooms from the past month are gone but I did find this one looking fresh and cool in the shade by the pool.  Otherwise we have a lot of hedge trimming to do.  I also finished watching the last episode in season 3 of Bridgerton today and was happy part 2 dropped late last week so I could work through it over the weekend and into the first part of this week.I wasn't sure exactly how this season would end but happy how it played out.

Day 171- Wednesday, 6/19/24

It's the Juneteenth holiday so I'm home helping Justin work in the yard getting those hedges trimmed.  We have so many that it took both of us pretty much all day and we'll need more time in the next couple days to finish.  Bailey was happy to sit out in the cool grass supervising.

Day 172- Thursday, 6/20/24

On the way home from work I picked up some fresh potted flowers to help make our front entry more inviting and later when it was cooler I took Bailey for an evening walk.  She's good about sitting and waiting at door thresholds because she know she gets a cookie.  Treat motivated dogs are the easiest to train!  We love these little heart treats too.  She like the flavor and crunch and I like how they are scored making it easy to split them in half so she's not eating too many in a day.

Day 173- Friday, 6/21/24

TGIF! It's been a busy work week and we're still busy prepping for the BBQ tomorrow but at least now I'm done with work and can focus on that. Tonight it was nice to veg out and watch this mindless, over the top, shark thriller of a movie. It was bit strange and unrealistic to be set in Paris but still a good watch and interesting premise.

Day 174- Saturday, 6/22/24

We're welcoming guests and having a fun party even if it is 103 degrees outside. Thank goodness for the pool outside and the AC inside.  So much great food, friends and good times but very few pictures since I didn't have my phone on me much.

Day 175- Sunday, 6/23/24

Rusty needed some cuddle time in the quiet of the morning after yesterday's full house.  He's not a fan of visitors and hid in our closet upstairs the whole time.  Bailey was a bit overwhelmed at first too but did settle into accepting the chaos and became more confident and relaxed around all the new people she met.  It was a good socialization event for her.  The best part for us now is all the leftovers. I won't have too cook for most of next week. These chicken wings were prepped and ready for the party but didn't even make it out because we already had plenty of food. At least they hit the spot for dinner tonight.

That wraps up another full week.  See you next week as we start a new month. Wow!

Week 24

Welcome back and happy Tuesday!  Aside from Father's Day we had a slower weekend where I could catch up on things including this blog.  Last week the really hot days mixed with nice days continued but the delta breeze in the afternoon that blows through our neighborhood helps a lot plus the pool is warm enough to use now and a refreshing retreat.  Otherwise all is good here as June continues to zoom by.

Take a look at last week's pictures:

Day 162- Monday, 6/10/24

Today was one of those cooler days so Justin was able to help put together some new patio furniture to go out by the pool.  The old set was literally crumbling to pieces from years of sun exposure. Thanks Justin!  It all looks great and will come in handy for our BBQ party in a couple weeks.

Day 163- Tuesday, 6/11/24

Time for an afternoon snuggle with a napping pup.  We're matching today.  Also I think she is finally done losing her baby teeth and we did find a few more of those she lost.  The smallest is the only molar we found but I know for sure she lost more and probably swallowed them.

Day 164- Wednesday, 6/12/24

Our latest new blooms out front are here just in time for July.  They always remind me of fireworks the way they are shaped and jet up above the rest of the plants. In other news, since Brandon is spending the summer in LA, he was able to attend his girlfriend's high school graduation.  Congrats to Dominique!  She'll be going to college at Cal Poly Pomona just 20 min north of Brandon's school so that will be nice for them. He also finally has all his paper work done for starting his new job on campus and will have his first working day next week.

Day 165- Thursday, 6/13/24

Yikes!  Traffic today was insane.  First, trying to get home from Davis, there was a crash on the causeway that delayed me for about an hour (not really that unusual these days) and then once I got into my town there was a road closure due to a fire that routed all these big semi-trucks through our residential streets and cost me another 1/2 hour. We never see traffic like this on these roads and they aren't built for this kind of traffic either.  John actually got stuck in this mess too just coming back from a simple errand not far away.  Thankfully the rest of our afternoon/evening was all good.  After dinner we finished this Netflix limited series that kept us guessing about how it would all end.

Day 166- Friday, 6/14/24

Cheers to the weekend!  John made up some nice cool tropical drinks complete with umbrellas that we enjoyed while watching Arthur the King on Prime.  What a great movie based on a true story that had a good ending but also had me shedding a few tears.

Day 167- Saturday, 6/15/24

Today was one of those nice days where we could be outside and John could grill for us.  We had Korean short ribs with rice and a nice cool Asian salad.

Day 168- Sunday, 6/16/24

Happy Father's Day! Justin and I worked together to make John a waffle brunch and later Tyler came over to swim and make pizza with us.  It was a great way to celebrate and thank their dad.  Sadly we are missing Brandon but we should be seeing him for a visit end of next month.

That's it!  Thanks for stopping by.

Week 23

Hello and welcome back. I'm playing catch up here. Last weekend was super busy so no time for the computer and then once the work week starts forget about it.  At least for the most part I was enjoying time with others so it's all good.

Here are last week's pictures:

Day 155- Monday, 6/3/24

We started the week with a nice, cool, cloud-covered day but once these clouds blow out we're looking at triple digits again. Back at home the yard is thriving when it's cool but then gets quickly stressed in the extreme heat so I'm expecting most of the flowers we have will be toast by the end of the week. At least we could enjoy them today.

Day 156- Tuesday, 6/4/24

Rusty is enjoying a morning nap on my lap before the heat hits hard and he retreats to a cool closet somewhere.  At least working remote I can dress cooler and avoid being in a hot car during commute hours.  The pool is for sure warm enough now and looks so inviting.  Justin even took a dip to cool off after doing a little yard work.  The high was 103 today.

Day 157- Wednesday, 6/5/24

We're finding ways to beat the heat.  Thank goodness for fans and shade structures.

Day 158- Thursday, 6/6/24

I saw this cute dog toy at Target and couldn't resist.  A chocolate donut for a chocolate lab! It turned out to be just the what she needed too.  She has been losing her baby teeth so her mouth is sore and she is not wanting to chew on hard things like a bone so this soft plush is perfect.  I was lucky enough to find her most recent lost tooth today on the floor right by my backpack.  At first when I went to pick it up I thought it was one of Rusty's cat claws.

Day 159- Friday, 6/7/24

TGIF and cooler!  Some of our flowers survived the heat at least--others not so much.  For dinner this is what we call "finger food Friday" and perfect pairing with drinks plus a new release movie.

Day 160- Saturday, 6/8/24

Bailey and John love their lazy morning naps together.  She especially loves his soft robe.  I'm not too sure how long she can nap on him like that though.  She is getting too big and so fast! It's a good thing John rested up because later we had a retirement party to attend for our good friend Andy and John was DJ spinning tunes well into the night.

Day 161- Sunday, 6/9/24

Rusty watching me get bills paid this morning and Bailey watching me squeeze in some yard work before heading out to spend the rest of the day with friends from the retirement party before they all head home.  Later in the evening Bailey and I went out on a nice walk and admired some vibrant summer flowers.

That's all!  See you in a few days for the next week if I can get pictures up in time.
