week 27

Welcome back and happy Tuesday!  I hope everyone had a good 4th of July.  Ours was pretty quiet and low key this year.  Thankfully I was also able to take a good part of the week off which was nice and allowed me to get some much needed things done around the house.

Take a peek at last week's pictures:

Day 183- Monday 7/1/24

July is coming in HOT!  Welcome to a new month which came even faster than I expected.  I'm hoping it will be a bit slower in the work realm than it was last month but we'll see.  At home we're just trying to manage the heat without breaking the energy bill.  Poor Rusty is doing his best to deal.

Day 184- Tuesday, 7/2/24

Taco Tuesday for dinner with a refreshing blended strawberry Margarita. After dinner it's too hot for dog walks so we do our best to wear Bailey out playing inside.  They energy level with this one, even in the heat, is over the top and just keeps building when we can't take her out for real exercise.  Look at those pretty new adult teeth though.  My hands are grateful and have healed nicely since these teeth are not nearly as sharp as the hook-like needle baby teeth she had.

Day 185- Wednesday, 7/3/24

I found this pretty blue bird feather out by the pool this morning while watering heat stressed plants. Looks like we're in it for the long haul with triple digits and sadly we have also had a lot of windy days which means our state is on fire again.  Most of them are down south but we are getting more and more starting up here too.  I always get a pit in my stomach when I see the smoky orangish skies.  Back inside we've had to get creative about building quick and simple Bailey borders since we put the longer metal pen gate away.  Mostly she is good but when we are all in the kitchen needing to cook and also need to open the oven often it's not safe for her.  It doesn't help that the cat also likes to be in the kitchen when we cook and she just can't leave him alone.

Day 186- Thursday, 7/4/24

Happy 4th of July!  We have beautiful clear blue skies today with a gentle breeze but it's still too hot to be out in this heat even with a pool until the sun starts to set.  Justin helped me make our traditional lemon, berry, flag cake before he headed to work.  Both him and Tyler are working until 7 so we'll have dinner with them later and then no street fireworks for us this year.  With a young dog we need to be careful how her introduction to fireworks goes.  We stayed inside playing and distracting her while John blasted some tunes to drown out the shocking booms.  It worked well and she did well not feeling anxious at all the whole night.

Day 187- Friday, 7/5/24

I had most the week off but had to come in today just for a couple hours to take care of cultures while my coworkers and most the rest of the university took time off.  It was really quiet.  I pretty much had the whole building to myself.  Back at home we're working on eating 4th of July food leftovers and we've been watching the new season of The Bear.  All the episodes dropped last week so we can squeeze them in when we have nothing else to watch which is nice.

Day 188- Saturday, 7/6/24

It's time for Bailey to say goodbye to her beloved puppy companion that has slept with her and comforted her at night since the day we brought her home.  It has a heartbeat and heating pad that we haven't used in awhile and she has discovered how to open the Velcro and try to rip it all apart.  Sadly many of her stuffed toys have had to be tossed recently due to destruction but that is expected at her age.  I will miss that cute little chocolate stuffed puppy I found that was the same color and size as her when we brought her home just over 4 months ago.  Meanwhile in the backyard things continue to bake and our pool water temp is running around 84 which sounds too warm but when its 110 out still feels pretty darn good.  John spent a lot of time out here in that chair today.

Day 189- Sunday, 7/7/24

It was almost too hot to grill but also even hotter to turn the oven on in an already warm house so we grilled.  At least steaks grill pretty quick and lighting up the grill is cheaper than turning up the AC.  It was a nice Sunday dinner and Justin didn't have to work today so we had him to help pull it together and clean it all up.  Afterwards Sunday nights are now for new episodes of season two's House of the Dragon.  I wish all episodes would drop at once like they did with The Bear but it at least gives us something to look forward to at the end of the week.

That wraps up another full week.  More of the same next week as continue to try to manage through the excessive heat wave.
