Welcome back and happy Tuesday! It's a lot but we are adjusting to a new normal and grateful to have so many supportive friends, neighbors, co-workers and family.
Here are the pictures from week 12:
Day 80- Monday, 3/21/22
I received flowers from the team at John's work as a thank you for supporting him and a reminder to take care of myself. They are so beautiful and such a great thought. We have so many people giving us support and love through this trying time. It's so appreciated and today was actually a really good day. John looks and feels amazing. I have "happy John" back and they are talking about maybe releasing him soon to continue recovering at home with outpatient PT.
Unfortunately today was not the day we had hoped for. My heart sank as soon as I saw him this morning. He looked so good yesterday and the exact opposite today. I waited in the healing garden as they transferred from his regular room to the ICU and then I waited in the ICU room trying to work a bit while he had a procedure done to add and internal heart monitor. Just before he returned there was a flurry of stressed activity and I was asked to wait outside. Things went from bad to worse right there--by far the low light of my life.
Today John was transferred to UC San Francisco medical center to be evaluated for a heart transplant after being hooked up to 2 heart pumps, intubated and fully sedated last night. He recently converted our coffee table into a shoe cubby which I was not a fan of but now it comforts me seeing his shoes and other things around. Out back I try to also find comfort in nature but the weeds have taken over the yard which is just another sign of him being sick for so long. Still I can find the beauty in them looking almost like snow balls in our lawn giving me a feeling of peace. Then there are our friends reaching out to care and support us. Dinner for the next few nights would be delivered by some of them. We are so loved and it's a testimony to the good guy he is and how his strong connections and loyalty to long-term relationships has now benefitted our whole family. He has so many groups of friends pulling and praying for him to give not just him but also us the strength we need to get through this.
Day 83- Thursday, 3/24/22
Today was all about pet therapy. They feel the shift in energy and know what's up. The cat is extra clingy and cuddly and the dog is extra sad and craving attention. In her old age she's restless at night and doesn't settle well but now she's calm and dedicated to laying where she belongs--what would be at her master's feet. The boys are holding up well knowing that he's in San Francisco where they have a plan to get him on supportive treatment that can help him heal his heart to avoid the need for a transplant. Fingers crossed this will be his path.
Day 84- Friday, 3/25/22
TGIF! What a week! Seems like it's been so much longer than just 1 week. Time to unwind with an Aperol Spritz and some mindless TV. I happily discovered that the new season of Bridgerton just dropped--perfect!
Day 85- Saturday, 3/26/22
Tyler and I are headed to San Francisco to visit John. We're taking the ferry since driving in the city gives me way too much anxiety and it was a pleasant journey with many of our wonderful friends helping us get there and back. Tyler has been my rock during visits and is soaking up all the medical details that are super fascinating to him. John looks good with his color back and is resting comfortably but still fully sedated and intubated so no real interaction. None-the-less it was good to see him and be able to hold his hand plus meet his team of Drs and nurses that shared updates and a detailed plan.
Day 86- Sunday, 3/27/22
The weeds had taken over our backyard since our lawn is dead from broken sprinklers when the new fence went in and Brandon hasn't been able to mow because John took the mower somewhere to be repaired and I have no idea where. I'm sure it's fixed and ready to be picked up by now, but from where? Anyway, while we where in SF yesterday our wonderful neighbor took care of our yard for us. Looks much better and now I can call around to find someone to fix the sprinklers. Otherwise nothing much going on today besides the Oscars. That was a wild one, hey.
Thanks for checking in and stay tuned for more updates.
Oh I am so sorry it was a rough week but glad John got transferred to where he needs to be.
