Week 40

Hello and welcome back. It's another week passing by and we're getting closer and closer to the holidays which seems crazy to believe. I wish the weather felt more like the current season but we had another super hot week last week with record temps. Even the bay area was well into 90's which is very rare for them. At least we aren't dealing with the crazy floods and hurricanes like back east though. Prayers for the missing and hopes for a speedy community recovery in the hard hit N. Carolina regions.  The damage has been unreal and we're all hoping the new hurricane hitting Florida this week won't be as bad as expected.

On a happier note here are last week's pictures:

 Day 274- Monday, 9/30/24
Even though it doesn't feel like it yet fall is happening and more and more leaves are turning colors and dropping to the ground.  Fall also brings new seasons of our favorites TV shows.  We actually missed the 1st episode of Grey's last week but thankfully found it streaming on Hulu.

Day 275- Tuesday, 10/1/24

Cheers to a new month!  Bring on October.  We had no puppy class tonight because it was too hot for them so we took advantage of the extra time and made tacos to enjoy for dinner. Normally when we have puppy class we get home so late we have to pick takeout on the way home.

Day 276- Wednesday, 10/2/24

Before heading off to work early in the mornings I get some time to play laser or string mouse with Rusty and also get Bailey fed and settled inside so she's ready for daddy daycare.  They both love their morning routine with me.

Day 277- Thursday, 10/3/24

Here are a few pictures from Justin on another one of his early morning walks.  It's a good time to see the sunrise and all the great wildlife we have near our neighborhood.

Day 278- Friday, 10/4/24

TGIF!  The best time for dog walks right now are just after the sun drops below tree level so we have plenty of shade.  The problem is trying to convince Bailey she needs to wait until that happens.  Cheers to the weekend.  Justin and I found this seasonal wine to try tonight and it was actually pretty good.

Day 279- Saturday, 10/5/24

We decided to take in a movie today as a way to escape the heat.  The first Joker was much better--this one turned out to be more of a musical that no one really cared for.  When we got home there was a package waiting for Bailey and she was happy to have a new toy that is designed to be torn apart--her favorite thing to do! It wore her out trying to succeed and thankfully it will take her a few more days, I think.  Once she gets the 2 layers of fabric off there is a football type squeeky ball revealed for her to keep.

Day 280- Sunday, 10/6/24

Rusty comes running to the kitchen any time meat comes out and Justin likes to tease him if there a type meat not meant for cats--pepperoni is way too salty for pets.  Later John grilled some real meat for us as a nice simple Sunday dinner.

That wraps up another full week.  Hope to see you in the next one.

Week 39

Hello and welcome back. I'm running late this week. It's only Wednesday and it's been so busy I feel like it should already be Friday--wishful thinking.  It's also super hot again which is not helping with energy levels or good sleep to recharge.  The heat can be so draining.  Hopefully now that it's October things will get better as we continue into the fall season.  Otherwise last week very eventful with all good things.

Here's a peek at how it all went down:

Day 267- Monday, 9/23/24

Happy birthday to our oldest son Tyler!  We celebrated yesterday with presents, pizza and cake and I'm putting those pictures here because this is his day.

Day 268- Tuesday, 9/24/24

This morning I was able to get the fall wreath hung on the door and set out a few other fall decorations.  I can't go to crazy and need to make sure things are up high so Bailey doesn't get to them.  She is for sure still going through a destructive stage and just loves to rip things apart.  Later it was a big day for Justin--he bought his first car and was super nervous about driving it home but did great.

Day 269- Wednesday, 9/25/24

After work I took Justin to the cardiologist.  He is the last of our boys to get his base line cardio work up so they have it one file for future reference.  Next up they will all be getting an ultrasound of the heart in November and should be set for preventative care in that realm.  Not long after this appointment we headed to Woodland, and look at Bailey strutting in like boss at puppy class. She's really come in her own here.  It's usually on Tuesdays but was moved to today because yesterday was too hot for them to be outside and today feels so much better out.  We also got to walk through the orchard at sunset once formal training was over.  It's beautiful and very peaceful on this country farm.

Day 270- Thursday, 9/26/24

There are so many things going on this week!  Tonight is the UC Davis Raptor Center's volunteer information night and it was a full house!  Justin got to drive his new car there which gave us a chance to check out all the lights and what not needed for night driving.  He wasn't thrilled about having to drive on the causeway which is why he looks worried.  Thankfully, once we got there he cheered up and enjoyed being at the center learning more about he might be able to help.

Day 271- Friday, 9/27/24

Happy Friday!  At work I was QC testing a batch of beta toxin I just made used for mastitis diagnostics in dairy cattle and it passed it's test as evidenced by the TIE Fighter looking mark on my plate.  Back at home this is our new normal in the evenings when we need to cook dinner--someone needs to man the dog on a leash because she just cannot stay out of the way in the kitchen.  At least she doesn't fight the leash and just resigns to relaxing once we put it on her.  Once dinner was over we continued the scary movie trend for the season and watched a current remake of Rosemary's Baby which did not disappoint.

Day 272- Saturday, 9/28/24

Justin was feeling under the weather today so he spent most of his day in bed.  Rusty took it upon himself to check in and make sure he was ok.  Meanwhile I got a few more decorations put out, some including fall goodies.

Day 273- Sunday, 9/29/24

Fall means football season and there has been a whole lot of football on here lately.  Today was a Niners game so John had his flag flying in support.  Later, on a walk, I was looking for even more signs of fall and spied this heart shaped yellow leaf on the ground that made me smile.

That wraps up another full week.  See you next week in a new month.

Week 38

Hello and welcome back.  We had a really nice Indian summer type of week to help us get into that fall mood.  We all are hoping the cooling trend will continue but there are at least a few more 100 degree days expected before the end of the month.  If it's just a few I'm OK with that and happy summer is now officially over.

Here are last week's pictures:

 Day 260- Monday, 9/16/24

We started the week with stormy skies and a small bit or rain here and there.  It was a perfect day for a nice long walk and some good comfort food.

Day 261- Tuesday, 9/17/24

With the cooler weather puppy class today was able to happen and we got to walk as a pack out by the raptor and equine centers on the Davis campus. Justin joined us since John is not great with long walks on uneven ground just yet.

Day 262- Wednesday, 9/18/24

Justin also like spending time with Rusty and is brushing him with a back scratch type of cat comb.  It's the only one he'll let us use on him and he's shedding like crazy so it's nice we found one that works to help comb out all the dead hair.  Later the new season of Survivor started--season 47!

Day 263- Thursday, 9/19/24

I guess it's a napping type of day.  You can see that shedding fur of Rusty's that I was talking about--no way to escape it right now until things cool off for good and he gets his sleeker winter coat.  Bailey sleeping is such a sweet sight to see.  Anytime she finally decides to nap and not need our attention is a time when we all get to relax.

Day 264- Friday, 9/20/24

Happy Friday!  At puppy class Janelle showed us how to use Bailey's training collar and leash as a DIY harness to help with pulling, and I was reluctant as first but it really does make a big difference so now our walks can a be more enjoyable with less struggle.  When we got back from the walk we pulled the appetizers out of the oven for a finger food Friday dinner and watched this new streaming movie.  It was better than I expected but the ending left me feeling like there should be more so maybe a sequel is in the works?

Day 265- Saturday, 9/21/24

Mid-week I don't have time for anything but grab and go breakfast so on the weekends I like to take the time so enjoy some cereal after having my coffee and this is my go to favorite.  Meanwhile, John still has to take daily vitals and keep a log for his doctors so they can catch any weird changes quickly to make adjustments with medications if needed. Later we found this scary movie streaming and are looking forward to watching more scary movies leading up to Halloween.  Tis the season and this one was a good one to kick us off with.

Day 266- Sunday, 9/22/24

Today is the 1st day of fall and I'm feeling those fall vibes.  Back inside, Bailey was feel those ball vibes.  This is an old ball John found tucked away in the garage from Bella's days and Bailey had a blast with it.  She was entertained for a good hour which was great.  The only issue is because it's hard plastic it make a lot of noise on the floors but even so it still is fun to see her have so much fun with it.

All done and ready for more great fall goodness to come.  Hope to see you back next week.

Week 37

Hello and welcome back! How is it the middle of the month already?  We started last week still very hot but ended and are continuing into this week with some nice cool temps.  Highs are mostly in the low 80s and it has been a treat.  It's so cute to see the pets gets all frisky and run around like crazy in the cooler weather. The constant high heat was taking a toll on all of us.  I doubt it will remain pleasant for the rest of the month but we'll take what we can get.

Here are last week's pictures:

Day 253- Monday, 9/9/24

As the sun rises on a new week the temps start to rise as well.  Today and tomorrow are expected to be hot but there is relief coming soon.  Over the weekend we started watching this new Netflix limited series that is a murder mystery with a great cast and so far so good.  We should be able to finish it within a couple days to find out who done it.

Day 254- Tuesday, 9/10/24

Bailey enjoys Justin being home.  He's her go to afternoon playmate and the alternate evening walker.  She's also quite fond of rawhide bones which is great because they keep her from chewing on other things like furniture.  We give her a new one on Fridays and it takes her just about a week to finish so that works perfectly.  In addition they help keep her teeth clean by removing tarter as she chews so it's win-win!

Day 255- Wednesday, 9/11/24

Wednesday at work I spent most of my day in the dark on this fluorescent scope reading the last of the slides needed to wrap up the data for our current grant.  Feels good to finally be done with that part.  Look how cute my scope is all lit up like a little robot.  Back at home, as the sun sets, a gentle delta breeze kicks in.  This is the start of our cool down and it's wonderful to be able to open the windows and enjoy that amazing fresh air blowing through the house.

Day 256- Thursday, 9/12/24

Now that it is cooler Rusty has been running around like crazy racing up and down these stairs and also playing tackle with his fish.  I caught him in a moment of rest looking very sphinx like.  Cooler weather also perfect for warm comfort food so I made a tortellini dish  for dinner tonight .

Day 257- Friday, 9/13/24

It was a peaceful start to my work day.  With fewer light hours in our days nearing fall I'm usually leaving the house for work right at dawn when all is still quiet in the neighborhood. Later back at home when the sun was setting it lit up the nose and paw art Bailey has crafted on our sliding glass door.  I forgot how this can be a constant thing and almost pointless trying to keeping the slider clean.  She looks so proud of her masterpiece and that tongue cracks me up.πŸΎπŸ˜„

Day 258- Saturday, 9/14/24

Last night we streamed this newly released bike movie and it inspired John to work on his bike today.  It's still his goal to be able to ride it before the new year and he was trying to make some pedal adjustments that might help.  Justin and I spent a good part of the day looking at used cars.  Time to get that boy his own ride.

Day 259- Sunday, 9/15/24

Bailey is in an "auto sit" waiting for me to say "OK" before she can go through the door threshold which is something we've been working on at home as instructed to do in puppy class.  She's pretty much got it down but does have to be reminded from time to time.  This is first thing in the morning and she's wanting to go out and eat her breakfast.  Food driven dogs are the easiest to train.  Later I worked on wrapping presents for an upcoming birthday and Justin shared some of the pictures he took this week with me so I'm sharing them here.

That's all for this week and hope to see you back in the next one.
